As I sit here this morning, on my off day – because of a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, I am lazily strolling through my emails that I receive every morning. A few from a dear friend that forwards her daily devotionals to me, my two or three that I have received for quite a while myself and then a new one that I have recently come across that is much more in depth that I usually have time for. All of these have one focus and one ONLY! GOD LOVES US!
Yep, these emails of devotionals range from the story of a young man finding Jesus between his drunken mother and Vacation Bible School, to the Great “I Am” speaking to Moses through a Burning Bush to the meaning of a “wavesheaf offering” mentioned in Leviticus. 23:9-14, to God allowing Satan to come against Job to prove that Job would remain faithful even if all of his “things” were taken away. So you see I had quite an assortment to read this morning and since I am off today, I was able to absorb a lot more and appreciate the different topics and sit and think. Think about how wonderful our God is. He is so broad and expansive. He covers so many areas in my life and is the foundation of all I am. He is the Beginning and the End, yes, however, He is also the God who cares that my finger got burned badly last night in the rush of making a fast pan of Mexican Cornbread. I know, that sounds silly, doesn’t it? But it’s so true! God cares about the littlest detail in our lives.
To speak to that particular event – burning my finger… my mother has this huge Aloe Vera plant that we love. Mainly because of its healing properties and not because it is a beautiful plant. Because, it’s beauty is not in the flower it has – which it has none, or the beautiful foliage – which it has no typical leaf foliage. But mainly, when one of us burns ourselves, we run to that awkwardly gangly plant and break off a piece and squeeze some of that soothing Aloe Vera gel on the burn and it instantly soothes. It is an amazing plant. My burn was pretty severe and very painful. Along with smearing the gel on my finger throughout the evening, I took a piece of the leaf and split it and then wrapped it around my finger and taped it up with a couple of Band-Aids for about an hour just before bedtime (Ahhh!) and it is almost normal this morning. I have known about the healing properties of this wonderful plant for many years, but have not used it to this extent ever. It worked like crazy! Mom, dad and I were talking about it this morning at breakfast. I mentioned something about the “Balm of Gilead” and how it reminded me of that. When actually, the “Balm of Gilead” refers to a different plant. Here is a quote from GotQuestions.org about it.
“The “balm of Gilead” was, therefore, a high-quality ointment with healing properties. The balm was made from resin taken from a flowering plant in the Middle East, although the exact species is unknown.”
Then of course I think of Jesus being a “balm of Gilead” type of soothing. He is the ultimate Aloe Vera type. He soothes and heals like no other.
Now turning to another one of those devotionals… the devotional that I read about Moses and God and the Burning Bush, I have more insights to share. Now, I did a post on this recently but I believe I left out a very important part! When Moses asked God what His name was and God’s response… here is the scripture.
13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
And then the Almighty God responds in the only way He could…
4 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
Let’s stop and drink that in for a moment. God is and always has been. He has no beginning and He has no end! He Is! I know our finite brains have such a hard time grasping that concept of “no beginning” especially. Mainly because all we know is beginnings and endings, it seems. We are born, we live and we die. Our loved ones are born, they live and they die – whether “loved ones” means a human loved one or a beloved pet that so many of us have. Our new cars, new houses, new clothes, new job, new anything has a beginning and they will come to an end of being “new” – eventually. So no wonder it is difficult at best to conceive that there is NO BEGINNING to God. He is and always has been. So when He said to Moses “I AM WHO I AM.” That is what He was saying. The Israelites would understand that because it had been told to them from birth, about who God was … because, as I found in one of those devotionals, this quote –
“To this day, God’s personal name — I Am who I Am, YHWH — is so sacred that, to honor Him, the Jewish people refuse to say it out loud.”
The Israelites would know if Moses used the phrase God told him to use and indeed they did as we say in my post yesterday, after hearing these words that Aaron spoke to them, they “bowed their heads and worshipped”. I Am Who I Am! God’s response is timeless. Just as He is. The Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.

There are so many ways God shows His love to us. The most visual signs to me is His creation. This great big beautiful world of ours is a magnificent work of art. The “intelligent design” of all things in it screams GOD! The Bible says if we don’t praise Him for all He has done even the rocks will cry out.
37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying:
“ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’[d]
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”
So even creation recognizes the Creator, as we should in everything around us! God Loves Us and He shows us in a multitude of ways every moment of every day, every day of every week and every week of every year, and so on. However, the most notable way God shows or showed us that He loves us is that He sent His ONLY SON – Jesus – to live among us and be an example of The Father for us. Then, for that same Jesus – spotless lamb of God – to die on a horrible Cross, after living a sinless 33 years, and being raised on the third day after going to Hell and back for us – literally, He was raised from the dead and sits at the right hand of The Father awaiting the time that The Father says “Son, go get my children.” Oh what a day that will be. There is an old hymn… “Oh That Will Be Glory”… here is the first verse and chorus:
When all my labors and trials are o’er,
And I am safe on that beautiful shore,
Just to be near the dear Lord I adore,
Will through the ages be glory for me.
Oh, that will be glory for me,
Glory for me, glory for me,
When by His grace I shall look on His face,
That will be glory, be glory for me
That indeed will be glory when we can spend eternity in Heaven with Him! That is another thing that our finite brains have trouble with… however, that is where faith has to enter in. I know that I will spend eternity with Him and I know He is faithful to carry that promise out because I have accepted and trusted Jesus as my personal Savior.
Have you met this Jesus face-to-face yet in this life? He is always waiting to meet you and talk to you. He is always waiting to accept you into His “Glorious Presence”. Here is a link to a website that talks about what it means to be a Christ follower. There is a Simple Plan of Salvation to read, just click this link Bible.org.
This post may have seemed a bit jumbled up and I apologize for that. However, there were a number of things to cover and it seemed a good time to just lay a few things out like a smorgasbord, so-to-speak, for you to read and enjoy. I always ask God to use the words I type for His glory. It seemed that I needed to put all this down to show the various ways I get inspired. Although the inspiration always comes from God, the instruments that are used by Him are the devotionals and scripture, usually. Even if it is an event that happens to me during the day that gives me inspiration to write about, there seems to always be a scripture that I can relate it to. So, hopefully you never have stagnant topics to read about. As I said in my post yesterday, God’s Word is living and breathing and always useful for teaching. God can use anything that happens to me or you to bring glory to Him. That is what it’s all about! HIM an NOT us. He is the Creator of it ALL!
