Tag Archives: Living Water

Yesterday’s post was “PRAYER – THE TABERNACLE, PART 3” and it was about the Brazen or Bronze Altar. The Altar was the first thing you saw as you walked through the Gate at the entrance of the Outer Court of the Tabernacle. This was the first place you had to go to offer your sacrifices. The video I include in yesterday’s post was very good in that it explained the process quite well. It is a video of Dr. Terry Harman and he is teaching a group of people about the entire process of the Tabernacle worship and sacrifice. If you did not view the video, I encourage you to do so.

This post is on the Bronze Laver or Basin. This was used for washing or cleansing.laver

Here is a quote from the website BibleHistory.com.

“The word “laver” means a bath or wash basin containing water for the purpose of washing. The Jewish priests were commanded to continually wash their hands and feet during tabernacle service.”

Let’s begin with the scripture.

Exodus 30:17-21

17 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 18 “You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it, 19 for Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it. 20 When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the Lord, they shall wash with water, lest they die. 21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a statute forever to them—to him and his descendants throughout their generations.”7-1_tabernacle

I would say that this step in the process is quite important for the priests. “…they shall wash with water, lest they die. 21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die.” Emphasis mine. This was a continual thing for the priests. The sacrificing was a continual thing so was the washing. The priests would begin with washing of the hands and then the sacrifices continually and they would return to the laver to wash before going into the Holy Place. The priests would enter the Holy Place regularly but the Holy of Holies was to be entered only once a year. That is another post, though, and I won’t go there right now.   Here is another quote from BibleHistory.com.

Certainly the hands of the priests would immediately get dirty after washing and then ministering at the altar. And so also their feet (since they were barefoot) would immediately get dirty the moment they touched the ground after washing (since there was no carpeting). Then what was the significance of just the feet and hands being washed?

laver(a) The Hands

The hands speak of what they did, their service, their work, everything they put their hands to was important and so their hands needed to be cleansed always, and daily. The initial cleansing was done only once, the daily cleansing was done continuously.  (if you click on the picture above it will enlarge in separate window.)

(b) The Feet004-jesus-washes-feet

The feet represented where they went, their lives and ways. Their walk had to be a holy walk, so their feet were washed always, everyday.”

And as far as the symbolism goes, the same website said it best…

As the altar points to the death of Jesus, so the laver points to the life of Jesus. Blood speaks of a life taken and water speaks of life given. The water in the laver speaks of Jesus, the living Word of God that enters us and gives us eternal life. Jesus said that we are clean because of His Word and that the knowledge of God that comes through His Word is eternal life…”

I know you remember the story about the Woman At the Well. Jesus was there when she came to draw water and He told her about “Living Water”. Here is the scripture.

John 4:13-15

13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”womanatthewell

Water is symbolic of life and Jesus certainly offers that. Have you received this Living Water? If you have not and want to know more about this Living Water, click on this link. It will take you to the website Bible.org and The Simple Plan of Salvation. This will help you understand what it means to be a Christ follower and help you receive the Living Water that I mentioned earlier. God loves you so much and is waiting to hear you call out to Him.salvation

I am going to wrap this post up and I look forward to telling you about the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies next. Thanks for joining me on this journey. Remember, God Loves You and He calls you His beloved.

The Song – God So Loved The World – Charles Billingsley

Ending yesterday’s post with the thought that The Good Shepherd will take care of us… I love the comparison of the shepherd and his flock of sheep to The Good Shepherd (Jesus) and us – Christians – as His flock of sheep (followers). I can so relate to so many things when you begin to compare the two. Here is the link to yesterday’s post if you didn’t get to read it.

Now on to today’s post. Today I am going to look at “He leadeth me beside the still waters”. First of all, I read one time in another book, about a shepherd and his sheep, that sheep simply are afraid of fast moving water or deep water. The main reason is they cannot swim. Their wool soaks up water and they sink. It is a horrible feeling to not be able to do anything if swept under because you are simply too heavy and cannot swim! I recall one time I was visiting with a girlfriend one weekend and we went to their lake house. I was about 10 or 11 and I could not swim. She and I, along with her little brother, were out on the boat dock out in front of their lake house. There were some older “boys” trolling along in their fancy boat and we caught their eye, I guess. They hooped and hollered out at us and I guess my girlfriend became so confused, excited or “whatever” and knowing I couldn’t swim – but NOT THINKING… pushed me into the lake. I was so shocked and taken totally off guard! I can see it like it was yesterday. Well, needless to say she was embarrassed after she realized what she had done… because I was flailing in the water and going down. imagesShe and her brother jumped in to try to help and all I did was try to get on top of them to save myself. Then her mother came running down and jumped in. I did the same thing to her. Then on my 3rd time up … or 5th or 6th … I saw her dad laying down on the dock and putting out his big, long, strong arm. I grabbed it quick! He simply picked me up out of the water, made sure I was ok and then helped everyone else out of the water! Luckily… he showed up just in time! So, I know how it feels to be going down for the last time and no one can help you! It was very frightening!

Well, poor sheep are simply not very bright and the shepherd knows this. If there is a water source and it is a fast moving stream, he will take rocks and logs or anything he can find to make a shallow, calm pool of water and leads his sheep to it to drink. This way he doesn’t have to worry about them drowning. He cares about his sheep and their well-being enough to do whatever it takes to make it safe for them ahead of time – before the sheep are in the vicinity. He has to think ahead so he has time to create a safe environment for his flock.  besidestillwaterssheep

Also, if fresh, clean water is not supplied to sheep, they will drink from any dirty, diseased pool to try to get refreshed. Again, they are not too bright.

In comparison, our Good Shepherd, has gone ahead of us and created a place of calm for us to take long, deep drinks of His refreshing, cool water. When we thirst – spiritually – He (Jesus) provides Living Water that never runs dry! Jesus said of Himself in John 4 that He is the “Living Water”.

John 4

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered and saiimages 3d to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

Also …

John 7:37 – In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

This link will take you to a website I found that lists several scriptures about Living Water. Spiritually speaking, if there is not clean water for us to drink from, we as humans, seek elsewhere and Jesus knew this about our nature. That is why He provides all the cool, clear Living Water we need to refresh our dry, thirsty souls. We don’t have to look too far or long to find the refreshing Spring of Jesus Christ. He is always there to provide. We just have to call out His name, He is there.

Also, along with the cool, shallow pool that a shepherd provides sometimes, in the book “A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23”, the author, W. Phillip Keller, talks about the morning dew on the grass in the morning. EARLY MORNINGHe says that it is the sheep’s nature to rise early and feast on the dew drenched grass of the early morning. I can just see a picture of that in my mind’s eye… the meadow of knee high grass glistening in the early morning sunrise with a beautiful flock of sheep right in the middle … munching away and almost smiling! The mornings are very special apparently to sheep and to some humans. For myself, mornings are my most special time with God. I love waking up and starting my day with the Spring of Life! The following is a quote from W. Phillip Keller’s book:

“In the Christian life it is of more than passing significance to observe that those who are often the most serene, most confident, and able to cope with life’s complexities are those who rise early each day to feed on God’s Word. It is in the quiet, early hours of the morning that they are led beside the quiet, still waters where they imbibe the very life of Christ for the day. This is much more than mere figure of speech. It is practical reality. The biographies of the great men and women of God repeatedly point out how the secret of the success in their spiritual life was attributed to the “quiet time of each morning.” There, alone, still waiting for the Master’s voice, one is led gently to the place where, as the old hymn puts it, “The still dews of His Spirit can be dropped into my life and soul.” GreenPastures

“One comes away from these hours of meditation, reflection and communion with Christ refreshed in mind and spirit. The thirst is slaked and the heart is quietly satisfied.”

“Only the Spirit and life of Christ Himself will satisfy the thirsting soul.”

That just about says it for me. He has such a way with words and I love the picture he paints with his words. Mornings are very special and can be made even more special when spent drenching your soul and spirit with time with your Good Shepherd.

I challenge you to find your cool, calm Spring of that Living Water. Jesus is waiting to spend time with you. Maybe you aren’t a morning person. Find some time that is just time alone with The Master, The Good Shepherd. It will change your life. He loves you so much! Remember, after all, He calls you His beloved!

The Song – Springs of Life – Ginny Owens (I am including lyrics below)

How many days, Lord, have I walked in this wilderness?
A thirsty pilgrim with no water to drink
And this barren place is making me crazy
But in my desperation, I am forced to think

Seems like I have spent so much time searchin’
In a dry and weary land where there’s no truth
But I think I’m finally realizin’ that my only hope of water
Is the well that comes from You, so

Rain down Your love upon me, pour out Your mercy on me
Please won’t You take me to Your springs of life?
‘Cause I’m dying for deliverance, only You can save me
I’m waitin’, please won’t You take me to Your springs of life?

Oh God, You are my God and my spirit seeks You
But my flesh has failed You time and time again
And now I’ve chosen this desert when Your love was waitin’
But Your stubborn child longs to understand

So I’ll not waste another minute searchin’
In a dry and weary land where there’s no truth
Oh, I think I’m finally realizin’ that my only hope of water
Is the well that comes from You, so

I wrote this last year sometime and wanted to share with the readers of my blog. I wrote it in 2 parts at first but have combined both into one for this post. I have enjoyed writing and sharing God’s words with all of you. This is a great post and one I think you will enjoy … even if you have read it before. I am including 2 songs because I couldn’t decide which was most appropriate… because of combining, I have two different subjects… God’s wonderful creation and Living Water of Jesus Christ. Read on and enjoy!
We were driving along the highway to our final destination, which was miles away.  It was getting dark and we found ourselves in Nebraska when the sun set and still when the sun was long gone.  It began to get dark and darker.  About 10 pm it was just plain dark.  No city lights, not many car lights and the light of our headlights seemed brighter than usual because of the darkness that enveloped us out in the country.  We were on a mission to discover Yellowstone National Park but we were always on a journey to discover – period.  So, the suggestion was made to pull off the main highway onto one of the country roads and drive a ways down and stop the car, turn it off and just stand there and look up.  So this is what we did and Oh My Goodness!  What beauty and breathtaking awesomeness.  p712819798-3The stars and moon shone so bright it was so beautiful!  The Milky Way could be seen so plainly.  We stood there in the quiet stillness of the night and God’s vast beauty just soaking it in.  Oh how I wish I had known The Creator like I do now.  Nonetheless, He revealed His magnificence to us that night on that country road in Nebraska.  That was only the beginning of our journey and it got even better as we continued.  Later on in the trip, we found ourselves staring up at the huge magnificence of the Rocky Mountains and the refreshing sound of the running river below.  We experienced the wonderful awakening of the day in Custer State Park.  The gentle breeze rustling through the Aspen and Pine trees, and the low lying clouds on the tops of the trees as the morning came alive was one experience I will never forget.  We even experienced the wildlife of Yellowstone. 3 From the little chipmunk climbing up on our laps and reaching in our pockets for those desirable peanuts to the gigantic moose standing in the middle of a stream feeding on the bottom.  There were so many experiences and so many sites to see that it was the most memorable vacation I had ever taken.  God’s beauty is everywhere!

If you don’t do anything else today, tell God how wonderful His creation is!  He loves to hear us tell Him how much we appreciate what He has given us. 33101_web I will never understand how anyone… ANYONE could not see and proclaim the glory of God by looking at His creation!  It is simply and utterly amazing and beautiful!  I could go on and on about that… but I will leave it at that and ask you to reply to me in the days to come to tell me what you have stopped and admired and thanked God for in the beautiful earth that He has given.

The Song – How Great Is Our God – The Singing Men Of North Central Texas

In the Northern part of Yellowstone there are these natural hot springs that are fascinating.  There is one called Morning Glory Poolyellowstone-national-park-morning-glory-pool_jpgThis is a YouTube Video of it.  It is beautiful and one that I remember because of the colors that it has and the unmistakable shape that reminds you of a Morning Glory flower – one of my favorites. There are several hot springs up there but the one that is most popular is probably Old Faithful!  This also was a fascinating site.  This hot springs, as you may know erupts every 91 minutes which is why they call it Old Faithful… it always erupts every 91 minutes and is faithful to show its power every time. old-faithful-geyser_20423_600x450 It amazes many people that visit the area.  Some of the first visitors had this to say about it:.

In the early days of the park, Old Faithful was often used as a laundry:

Old Faithful is sometimes degraded by being made a laundry. Garments placed in the crater during quiescence are ejected thoroughly washed when the eruption takes place. Gen. Sheridan’s men, in 1882, found that linen and cotton fabrics were uninjured by the action of the water, but woolen clothes were torn to shreds.[6]

Well, as you know there is a comparison here too.  I know another “faithful” Spring.  The Spring of Living Water. LIVING WATER2 Jesus Christ.  He gives that Living Water that he told the woman at the well about.  It is also faithful to fill us up and satisfy us beyond our imagination.  It will wash us thoroughly clean but definitely not leave us “torn to shreds” as the Old Faithful geyser did to the early settler’s clothes in 1882.  It mends, heals and refreshes!  I love the comparison of Jesus as Living Water and you will never thirst again after drinking of His Spring of Life!  Listen to the song I have attached.  Michael_Dudash_Living_Water_700It is sung by Karen Wheaton and it is about the woman at the well.  Talk to Jesus about His Living Water.  He will gladly offer it to you and give you what you have longed for all your life.

LIVING WATER-revisited

I wrote this last year before I had my Blog.  I have revised somewhat and added a few more thoughts… and of course added pictures.  I hope you enjoy it!             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Living Water… hummm… here goes my brain again.  Just think, standing by a stream or a rushing river, there is such life in that water; not only the living organisms in the water itself, which we cannot see without a microscope, but the water itself is alive.  The water is alive with motion. rushing-waters There is power in the water and the bigger the stream the more power there is.  It is also such a wonderful example of God’s creation.  It gives life to so much along the way.  The little rabbits that hop up to the edge to drink from it and the large deer that gracefully steps up – ever so cautiously – to get a refreshing drink.  Once I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Yellowstone National Park.  It is one magnificent place.  There were streams everywhere.  We came across this stream one time that was more like a river… it was very wide and pretty calm. 1112845414-m I looked out in the middle of the calm water and there was a huge moose standing there chewing on stuff he had grabbed from the bottom of the stream.  He was just chewing and loving the cool water engulfing his large body.  When he finished what he had in his mouth he would dunk his head down again and come up with green stuff just hanging out of his mouth and off of his huge rack of antlers.  He was one happy guy!  Quite massive!

Jesus said in John 4:13-14 that He was the Living Water and if we drink of the Living Water that He gives we will never thirst again.  I love that story of the lady that comes to the well to draw water and she has this conversation with Jesus.  She had no idea who she was talking to until He told her of all she had done.  Michael_Dudash_Living_Water_700Wow… what an encounter.  I am going to compare here…that moose and us.  If we really believe in what Jesus said about Him giving Living Water… don’t you just want to stand in the middle of that Living Water and drink from it every day?  Reach down and grab some life giving nourishment and live?  A relationship with Jesus will bring that life giving nourishment and you can live like never before!  The Bible – God’s Word is like Living Water to your soul too.  Reading His word is life giving and we can reach down deep into the scriptures and be nourished and refreshed with His Truth!

I have lived a few years and have learned so many wonderful things about God and how He wants to have a close relationship with us. He is not going to “force” Himself on us. He is a gentleman and will wait to be invited in. When you invite God into your daily life, accept Jesus as your personal Savior and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you daily, you will NEVER be the same! I long for that “Living Water” script_john7_38every moment of every day. It refreshes my soul and every fiber of my body. I was so amazed at how listening to God’s Word daily made such a difference in my life. I began to understand more about who the God of it all is! Who Jesus is and Who the Holy Spirit is. You cannot experience the Trinity without being changed forever!

If you do not already have a quiet time with God daily, I encourage you and challenge you to set aside some time every day. Read a chapter a daTHE BIBLE APPy in God’s Word. The Bible App helped me tremendously! I loved the audible version. I listen to the English Standard Version. There are several to choose from as you can see in this screen shot (this shows just a few). If you do not know where to start, you can do like I did and just start at the beginning – Genesis, or The Gospel of John in the New Testament. Anywhere you start is good. Just pray for God to reveal to you what He wants you to know. Pray for understanding and wisdom. God will grant that to you! He wants you to understand His love letter to us. He wants us to know how much He loves us and wants a relationship with us! So drink from the spring of Living Water! It will refresh your soul like you have never been refreshed! Let Jesus along with God’s Word nourish your soul daily.  It will change your life and you will never be the same!water-510x250

There are two songs I want to include here.  They are both so appropriate
